DISCIPLINE
Discipline at school is simple and straightforward, and is based on courtesy, consideration and respect for one another. Children are expected to display good manners, be courteous and thoughtful towards others at all times. We try to teach the children a code of conduct, which we hope you will support. It places emphasis on self respect, self discipline, learning to live together, concern for others both in and out of school and respect for property. If a child’s behaviour regularly fails to reach an acceptable level, his/her parents will be invited to School to discuss the problems and how these problems can be resolved.
BULLYING
We encourage parents and children to tell us if they think that bullying is happening in school. It is a subject openly discussed by class and teachers, especially in ‘circle time’. Both bully and victim can then be helped to explore and experience their feelings to each other and appropriate help and on-going support given to both to overcome the problems. Parents will, of course, be informed of this if they are not aware.
EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS
It is important if children experience these problems, that Home and School support each other. A member of the Beds County Council Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties Team or the Psychological Service may be able to help the child, parents and school.
A family worker is available to work with children and parents. This service is entirely confidential.
PROCEDURE FOR COMPLAINTS
As required under the Education Reform Act 1998, the Authority has a procedure whereby complaints about the curriculum and collective worship may be dealt with. Should parents find it necessary to consider making a complaint, they should first bring the matter to the attention of the Headteacher. If parents find that they must embark upon the complaints procedure then the Headteacher will, on request, provide them with the relevant details.
General
The purpose of this document is to set out the way complaints are to be administered.
Procedure
1. Concerns should be made known, where possible, to the class teacher. If the matter cannot be satisfactorily resolved at this level, a complaint should be
made to the Headteacher.
2. If it is necessary to proceed further the Chairperson of Governors should be involved. The Chairperson may choose to refer the matter to a governors complaints sub-committee.
3. If the complaint is still unresolved by the above the LA may become involved.
4. All complaints must be noted and action reports kept. The Chairperson/Headteacher will notify the complainant of any investigation.
This procedure is broadly in line with the draft complaints procedure (Curriculum & Religious Worship) and ‘How to Resolve Complaints’ issued by Bedfordshire County Council.
